What characters do you most love to hate?

There are the characters I just straight up hate like Ted Mosby. No love involved there.

Then there are the villains I just straight up love because they are awesome villains.

I'd say for "love to hate" characters like Umbridge and Bellatrix from Potter, Joffrey and Littlefinger from GOT, Zachariah from Supernatural, Gul Dukat and Kai Winn from DS9, Daleks and Davros from Who, and Feanor Eol and Maeglin from Tolkien.

Why the Ted Mosby hatred?

Because he was an asshole who thought his personal dreams were objectively the best for everyone, didn't understand others wanting different things, kept on obsessing over a girl who just wasn't into him and who had different goals, and seemed to think that just because he had feelings for her he deserved to have her regardless of her own feelings. He was fine the first couple of seasons, but he got worse and worse. And then in the final he was rewarded for being a stereotypical nice guy.

Yes, god, Ted was so fucking annoying.

+1 to several of your choices, particularly Davros (I think they've over used him, but that doesn't spoil my enjoyment watching the old episodes over).

So, so hateable. Such good characters (until S7 anyway).

Feanor, oh he is an completely compelling asshole.

He is. And what's worse he drags his sons into it. I can't get over him, at his death, when he's realized that their mission is impossible, still making his sons retake the oath.`

yeah, I think he's such a good "love to hate" because you just boggle over every new terrible decision.

Since I don't enjoy hating in general, they have to be so absolutely irredeemably awful that I really can't find anything sympathetic about them. (Otherwise, I will be sympathetic.)

If they're that awful, I can revel in the hatred a little.

There are so many different kinds of loving to hate, I'm finding it hard to decide which to pick.

Alan Rickman's Sheriff of Nottingham would be one.
Gus Fring in Breaking Bad is another.

Doflamingo from One Piece. Many villains from One Piece, actually. Doffy, CP9, Crocodile during the Alabasta arc, Akainu (fuck Akainu).

Lucifer on Supernatural. He’s not even fun, just a bitch.

And his actor, while talented, is a libertarian who argues with fans.

Dean Winchester. Daemon Targaryen (most of the male targs, but Daemon is Byronic lolol). The grand majority of disney villains. Wanda Maximoff.

Dean Winchester is an interesting choice. What is it about him that you hate?

His inability to see other people as human beings with agency is unparalleled (all the characters do it, it's that type of show lol, but Dean lacks respect for literally anyone who doesn't do what he wants). Everything about the damage his parents and hell did to him, he has funneled into control, and it's so fascinating to see thematically, because I think it's starts out of something very understandable? But then it grows to just a paterfamilias understanding of his role in everyone's life. He's probably the most empathetic character in the whole show, and he often just uses it for selfish manipulation and that's wild? Live a dark Cap America.

Also I actually like Sam, and I think Dean's perspective of Sam is very object-like in a way that Sam simply doesn't reciprocate and doesn't actually like, which again, considering Dean's trauma? Fascinating, but also quite shit. It's probably the first narrative-encouraged character devolvement I'd seen, where somebody simply does not overcome their trauma at all, whose coping mechanisms are simply ethically awful, and no lessons are learned, it's okay because we're family, and I kinda hate-love it.
