I had to google Patton Oswalt as the name did not ring a bell and it seems like he is primarily a stand up comedian AND voice actor as well as a TV actor so I don't know how casting him is any different than Mark Hamill or someone else who does both.

When Patton Oswalt gets a voice role, my perception is nearly always that it's stuntcasting where they were trying to get someone whose name everyone recognizes. When Mark Hamill gets a voice role, my perception is that it's because Mark Hamill was the best voice actor for that particular gig.

IDK like it's not an exact science but there is a distinction there.

Eh. Patton Oswalt always sounds like Patton Oswalt to me. Mark Hamill sounds like he's trying to be the characters.

Patton Oswald IS a voice actor.

I have no idea who the guy is but frankly, I think his voice sucks for a raven, and it grates on me when he talks. I don't think he does a very good job of it/i just don't like it. I wish they'd gotten someone with a lower register/a little rasp.

this is what I can't stand about you - any time someone says anything remotely unagreeing to you, you go 'oh no it's my troll!!!!!!!!!111' like people can't just have a different opinion than you and want to share it.

Yeah, I don't really like the dude's voice, but where I went to college, some of the local ravens would mimic human noises but not really speech.

It sounded a lot like what English must sound like to people that speak zero English, and was super disconcerting to hear coming from bushes and trees and stuff. And it didn't sound croaky or raspy.

So a raven is like a writing desk because neither sounds croaky, raspy or like a parrot with a throat condition? The more you know...

and a few of his utterances sound like they could be from Patton Oswalt.

Could be. I just don't like his voice, I guess. It wasn't what I expected from the character and his acting, to me, is just really flat and kind of...I dunno. It just doesn't cut it for me.

Yeah, sometimes an actor's delivery just doesn't work for you, I get that. It's just, for me, when I hear birds mimicking human speech, it sounds like they are putting on a voice that is very similar to Patton Oswalt's, so I thought that might be part of why he was chosen for the part.

It's weird, I think he had a perfect voice for Happy in "Happy!", but his voice didn't work for me as the raven. Go figure. I don't even know who I would've preferred.
