Same! I especially hate the ones that involve lip-smacking and little wet noises like that. Instant panic attack every time, 'cause I have misophonia. So yeah, ASMR was probably always going to be a complete non-starter for me. That said, I'm happy for the people who do benefit from it. Different strokes and all that.

Especially the fucking sound of someone's mouth. Like I can practically feel the speaker's saliva clinging to the inside if their mouth. UGH. I don't even like it when I can hear *my* mouth sounds! Drink some fucking water and stop whispering in my ear.

I used to try to find boyfriend sleeping audio/the audio of someone sleeping because you and OH MY GOODNESS so many of them had a dude whispering "sweet nothings"/pillow talk conversation in what was presumably sleepy voice? My guy. Just shut the fuck up. I'm trying to sleep, not have a conversation. Especially like that. Stop with the whispering! I eventually found the one I wanted (no conversation, rain in the background, the sounds of bed linens rustling occasionally as the person would move and light breathing/soft occasional snores.).

ok I'mma need some hands on testimony here, because when I google ASMR I get "humming crackling noises" not...people talking or telling stories or anything loud and frightening or just an episode of a show and yet I've seen videos marked ASMR that have nothing soothing and nothing like gentle constant satisfying noises. which is it??? can anything be ASMR until nothing is actually ASMR? is it supposed to do something? I don't understand, help me understand.

There's a wide variety of ASMR on youtube. It's basically sounds that some people find give them "the tingles", or find highly relaxing. So some are people making tapping or scratching noises, mouth noises, crinkles etc. Others are roleplay of things like personal attention or being at a spa, and medical exams, and some get creative and involve cosplay, including yes being kidnapped by a yandare, or the Joker.

As well as what other Nonny said, they're generally made with a binaural mic, so the sound travels from ear to ear if you wear headphones. I think they're mostly designed to be listened to with headphones. But I've seen things labeled "accidental ASMR", like bits of tv shows or lectures, which are usually about the tone of voice lulling people into a relaxed state, or getting tingles.

I tried listening to some a while ago to see if I got any tingles, but I didn't. Also I find the roleplay ones with someone whispering in my ear very off-putting, but to each their own.

I was in Phandom well before the movie (AYRT) and I just... thought there was so much power in the raspiness of his voice when he shouts 'YOU WILL CURSE THE DAY YOU DID NOT DO... ALL THAT THE PHANTOM ASKED OF YOU!' more than Crawford or Ramei or any of them IDK. I just didn't hate him in it IDK.

Honestly, the scenario I would have shared has been taken down by the creators themselves :( sadly. Such good ear smut.

But! I recommend checking out literotica's audio section (it is VERY hit or miss) and r/audio gonewild except I forget which is the actual subreddit title. Good luck! (I tend to avoid ASMR stuff because it just annoys me, but I've seen plenty of it online, so you'll definitely find your people!)

I only ever listened to YT ones for specific characters (usually my anime men) and a few people who just make me laugh (like the guy who does Alphonse. Omg Alphonse is my favorite because he makes me lol and said some corny shit about his kink being procrastinators who finally get things done lmao. It's very supportive when I'm not trying to listen to werewolf kidnapping you in the forest/ yandere mafia boss falls in love with you and kidnaps you until you realize you love him too.
