Normally I'm cool with people being into slasher killers, but not Freddy...I think it's because of the fact that Wes wanted him to be a pedophile and it is implicitly stated in one of the movies that he is one (I can't remember which, though).

So... 'regular' homicidal maniacs are fine? Heh.

The normal ones. The standard, acceptable grade of bloodthirsty psychopath.

This is my standard for Dead by Daylight fic. There's a pretty good fic where the electric torturer guy is humanized as a formerly decent person who was encouraged by his government to dive headlong into cruelty, and could potentially be decent again. There's another pretty good fic where Michael Myers is humanized as a mentally ill person whose psychiatrist told him so many times that he was evil incarnate, he thought he had no choice but to do evil things. But I don't think Freddy really works as a redeemable figure.

This is so weird to me, please explain it to me like I'm 5

I don't understand how pedophilia is worse than murder. I really don't. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and I want the people who did that to me to suffer indefinitely - and I still don't think it's as bad as murder. I'm glad I'm still alive. My rapists are horrible people but they would be MUCH WORSE if they'd ended my life.

That's how I feel about my experience in reality. In fantasy, movies/books/media are so good for exploring taboos, the things you can't say aloud. And horror movie fans are watching it for catharsis of their biggest fears, right? That's certainly the appeal for me. Horror is about facing taboos head-on, and it's for people who have survived bad things.

NAYRT but the answer is because anything sexual and bad is worse than anything nonsexual and bad, and because pretending you care about children more than anything makes you look like a good person.

I also think murder is worse than rape because murder is so final. At least if a person is raped, they've been left alive to recover- and recovery is possible. You can't return after being murdered!

Maybe because CSA is a fucking personal matter to me. Jesus christ the replies the my comment.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-03 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
You really just ignored AYRT saying they're a CSA survivor too, huh. It's worse because it's personal to you, you and nobody else in the world has had personal experience and might see their experience differently than you do!

I actually didn't read the full comment - that was my fault. I read the ones above and just saw red. I wouldn't have responded like this if I had read the full comment. My apologies to the anon I had responded to.

With that said and my head more screwed on, I'm still disgusted that people took umbrage with the fact that I find being attracted to a pedophile too far across a line. But whatever I guess.

Idk, I’m a survivor too and I feel pretty much the opposite. I don’t know if it’s rational, and I certainly don’t begrudge you your feelings. It’s really cool if horror gives you a place to explore your fears in that way. But for me, it’s completely different. It’s for many reasons, a lot of which are personal and probably wouldn’t “convince” you of anything. I’d imagine that it comes down to very personal stuff for a lot of people whether that subject matter is something truly cathartic for them or something they never find interesting in a story, or somewhere between those extremes.
