To be fair I used to frequent 4chan in the 00's but back then loli/shota was considered just a common hentai kink on the same level as gore or tentacles so nobody made a fuss about it being some slippery slope into actual crimes (which it ain't). God do I miss those times now that fandom has gotten batshit pedo-obsessed even wrt adult characters.

Good post, OP!

I'm different from you in that I was always attracted to older people as a teenager. Teenagers have just never done it for me even when I was one. They still don't. But now in fiction, it's fascinating to explore using my memories of my teenage self (through the filter of charactes who aren't me) to delve into the psychology of that. And it's free to be hot AND problematic at the same time, because it isn't real.

People can be into whatever they want, and frankly when it comes to actual pedos I'd rather they get their jollies off in fiction than hurt real kids, but I reserve the goddamn right to block and remove anyone into that shit from my feeds because it creeps me the fuck out. That isn't being pearl-clutchy, that's me curating my internet experience based on my own comfort levels and no one gets to tell me that's wrong.

Eh, I think it's weird to pretend that fiction is not indicative of the social world in which it exists. What it's indicative of is arguable, but i think you can make some conclusions and indeed there are whole academic studies which do.

I find the whole "fiction isn't connected to rl" argument to be solely used about social ethics which is conclusory in of itself of its rl connectedness. But again, intensity and scope? I would agree both are arguable.

ETA: as for your question about the purpose of fiction? I would argue that enjoying the lack of reality is not its most significant or primary point.
