Re: Question for Americans
Rural areas tend to see it a little laxer because there is zero else to do and few other ways to get around and frankly fewer casualties besides yourself that are as likely.
Most pedestrian areas tend to see it much worse, because you aren't obliged to drive.
There are places in the US that are dry, like straight don't sell alcohol, so there's that.
Some states have significantly worse penalties and much lower impaired limits than others so there's that to consider.
