Adding to the chorus here. Whenever I've gone to my friend's house and we've had some other people over and shared some drinks, she had everyone just crash at her place for the night so that nobody would be tempted to drive home after drinking. And everyone was totally fine with that setup.

I don't know where your friend's getting that attitude, but yeah, I'd say they're definitely in a minority for thinking that way. Driving drunk is about one of the dumbest things one can do, quite frankly.
