It really varies. I’ve lived places where it’s a huge deal to the citizens if not always the courts, and I’ve lived places where it’s just NBD to anyone. I currently live in a place like that and I hate it. It’s also limited my social circle because I will not do it and no one will be a DD or carpool. I’m happy to go out with people and not drink (I rarely drink) but my conscience cannot abide watching someone else drink knowing they will get behind the wheel. Public transport to include taxis and Uber don’t exist here so everyone just does it. I won’t drive after dark because I’m scared to get killed by a drunk driver.
