Hahaha, I feel this. But hey, Anne/Gilbert has been making people ship it for a long, long time. It's a powerful ship! XD

Also, NGL, I'm lowkey uncomfortable with how into AWAE's Gilbert Blythe I am/was. Like, yes, he's a fictional character, but he was played by a real person, who was like, what, fifteen when they filmed S1? I'd never get involved with an actual fifteen-year-old, obv, but damn that character is attractive.

In a show with so many surprisingly nuanced characters (more than I expected from a turn-of-the-century girl's book adaptation), Gilbert stood out to me as the most boring one by far for the longest time. He's just a bit too perfect to be narratively interesting: no flaws, nothing to struggle for or to lose. Though I do like him and Anne together once she starts to get fluttery around him. I eat that tension right up.

But yeah, I totally agree that as a love interest in a romantic comedy, he was perfect to crush on, even as young as he was. And in your defense - he wasn't written, dressed or acted especially childlike at any time, to the point that the teasing that lead to the slate-breaking scene seemed almost out of character and like the writers only left it in because they had to keep the iconic moment.
