I don't like sex scenes because the characters are having sex and I'm not.

hahahahahahahahahahaha :D

I think most sex scenes are pretty boring. Like they don’t really serve a purpose to the story and are just there for whatever reason.

My feeling too

I love sex scenes between characters with chemistry. Can be steamy or sweet or lighthearted, I love them all. My all time favourite is George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez in Out of Sight; it hit all the right notes for the characters and though it’s been ages since I’ve read the book or watched the film I remember thinking the editing did a fab job balancing between the course material and who the characters became in the film.

I'm not even into m/f, and that one was really good.

Yeah, I find them pretty boring and most of the time they take me out the story - I just imagine actors doing this pseudo sex with people around them doing their jobs and cringe.

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 10:16 am (UTC)(link)
ok but...the whole movie is actors doing pseudo things. Why is fake sex more cringe than fake everything else that's also pretend?

(Anonymous) 2022-09-06 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
Frankly I don't know. I know that every part of a show is a pretend, but sex scenes somehow still the thing where I KNOW it's a pretend. Maybe because I find watching other people having sex embarrassing and my brain goes places away from the plot

Still, well-made sex scenes are good, I just rarely enjoy them

I like sex scenes just fine if it's clear that everyone understands that sex scenes are character work. They should be included if they tell you something important about these specific people and how they relate to each other. There's no reason for them to be unimportant, and there's no need to justify them as long as they give insights into the characters' relationship. Sex scenes should be just as load-bearing as any other kind of scene.

Too many filmmakers leave the characterization at the door though.

I feel like if done right, like any scene that wants to tell a mini-story or get a point across, it can be well done.

In terms of sexiness, I would say it's dependent on the music, lighting, chemistry between the actors, and the flow of action/movement.

I personally find the human body extremely beautiful and I'm quite into visuals so I tend to like sex scenes. But I'm also highly emotional so if it's not executed well I'm not going to be into it.

I want a sex scene to be very specific to the characters. Sex is so incredibly variable, there is so much difference between individuals in what they want and what they don't, and how they express it or how they don't. And it's so crucial to so many different kinds of relationships.

I also find the human body beautiful and also the human mind, and sex is actually extremely important to the mind. I just hate when people think the rational brain checks out when they see naked bodies together. No, mine doesn't.

It depends on if an actor is hot and I want to see him naked, then I'm into it. I still wouldn't want to watch it with someone else in the room tho. That's just awkward.
