But she’s not a Mary Sue? She isn’t all knowing/perfect/better than everyone else.

I liked her in her first two episodes during Ten’s run and wish they’d left her at that. Her character arc was messy and not just because of the timeline, a lot had to do with poor writing and a showrunner who thought he was a lot more clever than he really was. Still doesn’t make River Song a Mary Sue though.

she's a child born of human parents who happens to be able to regenerate and is some percentage time lord "because she was conceived on the tardis" and she's awesome and cooler than the doctor and even a better tardis pilot and she knows his real name and she makes daleks beg for mercy and OH MY FUCKING GOD SOMEBODY WAS LITERALLY PAID MONEY TO WRITE THIS SHIT
