Why do so many Star Wars fans give off the impression they'd secretly be much happier fighting for the Empire or the Sith than for the heroes?

Because villains are cool. Doesn't bother me except for the fans who seem to think the Empire are actually the good guys.

No it isn't. Some us like villains but recognize they are evil and just think evil villains make for interesting characters that are fun to explore.
