It was widely known and joked about for years, by his colleagues, at cons, etc. The producers knew all about it, and failed to stop it. No one complained about being abused, it was just a response to mob hysteria whipped up when Noel Clark's abuse was exposed.

Yes, Barrowman behaved inappropriately, but it really doesn't warrant a full scale cancellation. Also people ignore that he acted like that for a couple of decades before he became any kind of a star, like in his days in musical theatre in the 90s, where it wasn't unusual for people to be running around half clothed and certain female leads were known to accost male leads with dildos. And stars and directors got into punch ups, and a lot of them were off their heads on coke. When that's normalized for a long time, it's kind of shitty of the BBC to just wash their hands of him in a moment of panic (and no, I don't think that's them taking accountability, it's just them being cowards).

None of those things are okay, though. Just because it was done a lot, doesn't make any of it okay. All of those people should have been fired.

That's pretty much half the creative teams and producers.

I'm cool with that. If there are people who genuinely recognize that their previous behavior was awful and have genuinely apologized and changed, I'm okay with them staying. Half-assed "times have changed, so I have to apologize but I don't really want to" apologies don't count.`

Yeah, I don't think Barrowman was the worst (because there's SO much worse going on) but a sincere apology isn't too much to ask.

If there were people working on set with him who actually felt sexually harassed, he owes them an apology. I don't see why he owes any kind of apology to random members of the general public who didn't personally experience him flashing or mooning them.

This so much.

Right, and you never did anything inappropriate and rude but was accepted behavior before you became more self-aware? You want to be held to a future gold standard and not be given a chance to learn and grow?

Such rigid and unforgiving behavior is something I hope you grow out of someday.

But I acknowledged it and apologized. Which he hasn't.

No one complained because it was a culture where no one could complain about it. He was given a pass from the very first time he did it and wasn’t stopped by RTD or anyone else in authority. From that point on any DW/Torchwood set with him became a toxic environment where no one could speak up without risking backlash because it was obviously permitted.

Toxic environment or immature theatre kid environment? Ehhhhh.

No one from the show has complained.

A TV set with Gen X people is way more freewheeling than an accounting office.

Barrowman is childish, not a predator.
