girl, please... this is why we dislike TLJ - this movie screwed up both Finn's and Poe's character a lot, right when they were so popular after TFA (insert big girly teardrop for the brief moment FinnPoe were the most popular ship in fandom and they claimed to be the most progressive *SOB*).
I can only guess, but it seems to me that TROS likely was trying to return to how it was meant to be from the start, a tight trio of main chars like the first SW trilogy. But it was too late, so yeah, it feels half assed.

OP

But Poe was barely there until the end of TFA. It wasn't a "tight trio" in TFA.

Bullshit

Poe barely had a character to develop in TFA. He was popular because he was played by Oscar Isaac - I mean, I completely get it and I'm not mad about it, but he wasn't a deep character at all. I don't necessarily like what they did with the character in TLJ, I think that's by far the weakest part of the movie, but you can't look at him and say that they ruined anything. And as for Finn, his development in TLJ was extremely solid, and took his character in a direction that was IMO interesting and certainly in line with his characterization in the first film. If you're bitter about them doing Finn dirty, I agree! But the film you should be mad at is TROS, not TLJ.

You just can't say that there was a tight trio of main characters in TFA - that's completely invented. There's nothing like that in the first movie, it only became a thing because Poe got so randomly popular. Nor, for that matter, can you say that it was meant to be a tight trio of main characters "like the first SW trilogy" and then complain about how they were split up - because the tight trio of main characters *was* split up in the first SW trilogy.
