I don’t get the fandom love, never have.
But in TLJ from his character’s perspective the command are not just Doing the Wrong Thing they’re actually sabotaging everything the resistance was working towards. Part of what made that film so terrible was how that was handled; there was no reason to pull a gotcha on their own troops. It still blows my mind that there are fans who think 1) that was a good part of the movie; 2) it was right for them to keep Poe et. all in the dark; and 3) Poe was in the wrong. The whole thing was poorly contrived drama that was weakly executed and it’s mind blowing to me how rabid some fans on either side of the debate still are. That there was even a debate about it is pretty sad, tbh.

SA I meant to add HOW Poe handled things was wrong but it’s about what was expected from that calibre of writing. Star Wars has never been big on nuance so the big tropey OTT reaction on Poe’s part was on brand. It just wasn’t a situation that ever should have happened and it’s why EU, Clone Wars, etc are generally more loved by fans than the prequel and sequel films.

It's clearly the weakest part of the movie. It seems like they knew where they wanted the drama of the storyline to end, but they couldn't quite work out how to get from Point A to Point B.

And unfortunately, it does have ramifications for the rest of the movie, because it does slightly fuck up the pacing of the movie as a whole.
