(Anonymous) 2022-09-08 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)I mean, look, if you want to say that she was a figurehead and a symbol of a despicable regime and so you don't want to mourn her death on those grounds, fine. That's a factual statement and a reasonable reaction. But it's frankly ridiculous to treat her as a major protagonist of the imperial system on a personal level, because she just simply wasn't. On a personal level, she was a nice old lady.

Decolonization happened IN SPITE OF HER. She was about as nice as Racist Uncle Richard who thinks all blacks are lesser and all women belong barefoot and pregnant at home.
