So outside of filing off the serial numbers, is the blowback really all that's keeping you from sharing on AO3? I mean, maybe for every 10 haters, you'd have 2 people who really like the fic -- but obviously it's up to you!

An alternative somewhere between that is posting it on AO3 or Wattpad as an inspired by X, which is practically tantamount to just tagging it with AU. It's all up to you OP. Now I'm curious as to what's the fandom and what's the change -- like how drastic was it? A good old gender switch one or both of the characters? I'm curious, since you feel it's distant enough from the original work -- would it draw parallels if you were familiar with the source material?
