So many tws. Including alcoholism, people death, animal death, and maggots

My uncle died earlier this week. He wasn't a blood relative, I maybe met him two or three times. He was a heavy, heavy drinker. In the last year he got run over while drunk, caught covid in (physical, he never stopped drinking) rehab, and his (also an alcoholic girlfriend) died. I never even had a conversation with the guy, but I talk occasionally with his son, and we think of each other as cousins.

I'm close with his sister, my aunt; she and I hang out and go on walks and also vent to each other when petty shit has us down.

But she tends to go quiet when things get genuinely bad, like, sat, when her brother dies.

I just walked 2 miles in the rain to pay $300 to put down a hen who was being eaten by maggots from the inside out. Now I get to go home in the rain and dig a grave in the rain and I'm not even gonna mention this to my aunt or cousin because brothers/dads>chickens.

But I only cried for the chicken. I feel like a bad person but I'm still being drizzled on, carrying a maggot riddled corpse, and have a half mile still to get home.

I'm so sorry about your hen. You loved her, and she was your pet. I think that's worth being sad over. And I get not being sad over your uncle. As you say, you barely knew him. You're not a bad person. You're respecting the feelings of people you care about regarding someone they cared about, while also dealing with grief of your own. That's a very hard thing.

Holy shit, nonny, that's a lot to deal with and I'm sorry. Hugs if you need them.

I'm so sorry about your hen. Losing a pet is losing a friend and you lost them in an especially upsetting way. I know from your previous posts about your chickens (I'm assuming you're the same anon) that you care for them massively and I'm sure she had the absolute best, most loving life she could have had. Take as much time as you need to mourn her, and don't feel bad about being less upset over your uncle; there's no right or wrong to loss, your feelings are usually proportionate to the impact they had on you, and there's no need for guilt.
I wish you better times, nonny. Hugs if you need them.

Grief is a strange thing. You aren’t wrong for feeling it in the ways you are. I didn’t cry at all when I heard about some bad family news even though it really upset me, but cried and cried for a long time when I saw something sad (fictional) in a tv show a few weeks later. I don’t know why that happened. Sometimes different sadnesses come out differently. It sounds like things have been so painful for you recently, hope you can find some peace soon.
