Yes, and? People who identify with Humbert Humbert and think he was fine get the side eye from me. People who agree with the Accords get the side eye from me. People who root for the Empire get the side eye from me.

Fiction doesn't make you do things or change who you are, but how you react to it does REVEAL who you are.

Not really. People like identifying with fictional bad guys all the time. It doesn't HAVE to mean anything deep. It's a safe way to experiment with darker thoughts that you may but very well also may not agree with irl.
Likingc and identifying with Hannibal Lecter doesn't mean they're potential cannibalistic serial killers either, for example.

Like anon said above, it's not "liking and identifying". It's ideological alignment. That's not experimenting with darker thoughts, it's seeking validation for ideas they already have.

Except airt said "identify", amongst other things so... eh. And I mean... I very, very rarely see people going "The Empire is right and I agree with their ideology" compared to people who go "they look cool and cillains are more fun". Also, plenty of people like the whole Jedi ideology while that has plenty of stuff to criticise as well and THEY are the good guys. It's not nearly as easy and black&white as you try to make it out to be.

I'll root for the faceless evil empire if I hate the goody two-shoes main character whose blandly nice or unrealistically optimistic personality annoys the shit out of me. I don't feel that way regarding Star Wars because I like almost everyone, including the good guys, but in something where the good guys are annoying? God yes I want them to lose no matter the cost. Being annoying is the worst thing you can be in fiction in my opinion. In real life I just want annoying people to leave me alone, not be punished. No relation between the two.

Rooting for the bad guy cause it's fun = yes.

Saying the bad guy was right when they're obviously and canonically facists = no.

Nayrt

Please look up the definition of fascism. Fascism does not exist in Star Wars.
