Creepy is similar to the book character, though. Wilder's is not creepy enough. That being said, I think Depps version doesn't quite work for me either (I used to like his, but I changed my mind). I still think the newer movie captures the spirit of the book better, though.

You know, I read those books all the time as a kid and never once thought that Wonka should be played as a pedo. Depp, on the other hand, apparently thought "so, he's like Michael Jackson except more obvious."

I always thought that book Wonka was weird, but more in a Christopher Walken kind of way, with a hell of a temper, and pictured him looking like a short Uncle Sam.

I did read your comment. You said that Depp was creepy because Wonka was creepy. And as I and other people have pointed out, Depp was creepy because he played Wonka like a pedo, which is a completely different kind of creepy than most people read Wonka. You need to stop assuming that every time someone disagrees with you it's because they didn't read what you wrote. It's a bad habit that you indulge in frequently.

No, that's not what I said at all. I said Depp's version doesn't work for me either. I said overall I prefered the newer movie as more in the spirit of the book. But I don't like either version of Wonka.
