Probably not a popular choice. I honestly haven't seen many Ghibli movies. But I really like Tales of Earthsea.

I bloody love that movie. I wouldn't call it a "comfort watch" - some parts, quite the opposite!! - but even though it'll never be as good as the first time I saw it, I have watched it numerous times. Page and Wilson are both amazing in it.

Kiki's Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro hold a special place in my heart, and Castle of Cagliostro was my introduction to anime back in the early '90s, so those. I loved the art style and how detailed they were.

The fact that Sailor Moon is in the background of a secret about a Shonen is unreasonably cracking me up. I assume this was a comment secret; if not (of if this was intentional), A++ image choice.

On topic, I'm not even sure what even counts as shonen unless it's published in Shonen Jump, ngl. The one series I follow that I know is shonen I have followed for almost 20 years though and it's my favourite piece of media of all time, so saying I'm hooked for life sounds absolutely right.

I think it is a really good score. Don't personally think it comes close to Williams (and some others I think are better as well), but to each their own.

I've got them on and off for a couple of days, presumably someone on DW is doing back end stuff. This too shall pass, and if it doesn't we can always go back to LJ.

Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, Whisper of the Heart (the story the protagonist is writing in that one is told in The Cat Returns, which is a detail I love). They're each full of feeling and beautifully animated, and I like what they say about self, creativity, and our place in nature.

Princess Mononoke for reasons that are probably mostly sentimental rather than anything to do with the movie. I saw it first on TV on Christmas eve while staying with my grandparents. I was allowed to stay up late to watch and I remember how the light of the TV would glint of the decorations on the Christmas tree in the dark room. It's one of my fondest Christmas memories.

To the kind anon who recced the Bad Buddies series a while back: Thank you! I just finished it and you were right, it's great. I followed your advice and didn't start with it which probably made it even more enjoyable since it really was better than what I started with.

If you or anyone else has more recs for similar shows, please share them! I'll probably start KinnPorsche next but that seems like a very different vibe and I was honestly just digging out cute the love story and main characters on Bad Buddies were.

SA - I accidentally missed Mononoke Hime on my list. I feel like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke go together. Not like they're sequels or anything, but like they're having a conversation. I guess My Neighbor Totoro would be considered part of that conversation, too, and I enjoy that one as well, it's just not in my favorites.
