grrm literally said in his own words that this is one of things he told them, and it works thematically since stannis is a macbeth if there ever was one.

anyway, stannis is warring with the white walkers, he'd kill his daughter if he had to.

how is stannis anything like macbeth other than wanting to be king of something and doing (in the show at least so far) unscrupulous things to get there? he didn't murder his liege, he didn't betray anyone and have literal blood on his hands. I mean there's a prophecy I guess but that's common enough in fantasy literature as a staple. unlike macbeth, he has a child and values lineage so the odds of him murdering her just to ensure a prophecy he clearly doesn't actually believe (stannis is too practical to really believe in magic and all that nonsense) are pretty slim outside of a shock-per-minute TV series written by hacks. I just don't see him as a MACBETH. just a man who would be king.

NA Stannis did murder his brother, his uncle by marriage and would have murdered his nephew had Davos not rescued the kid. He comes across to me as someone who is on a path of escalating what he's willing to sacrifice in order to achieve his goal.
