The love triangle and couples that are constantly on/off.

Also, problems that are created because someone overheard one half of a conversation and misinterpreted it. And instead of just asking they make a huge deal of it.

Ugh that last one. In particular I'm thinking of some sitcoms where I just want to grab everyone and shake them and tell them "TRY TALKING TO EACH OTHER INSTEAD OF ASSUMING THE WORST AND ACTING ACCORDINGLY."

They only argue because they love each other.

Horror movies where characters are idiots and go into attics and empty houses knowing there is a killer on the loose. Please give me more horror movies with smart people who still get killed.

Unearned redemption. I love a good redemption arc, but I like it to work. Just random out of nowhere redemption where everyone forgets that this character was ever a villain? No thanks.

Boy crushes on girl, girl says no a million times, then at the final episode says yes. Ugh. No.

When everybody around them, and I mean everybody, makes comments on how two people should be together. One or two comments are fine, somebody asking about it is okay, but when it's person after person after person, it's annoying.

My most hated tropes is the hero with (a) dead parent(s) and fridging. Seriously get some new motivators. There is more variety nowadays, but it's still shockingly common.

apocalypse movies always have the one guy with the ex wife who get back together again at the end of it or are reconciling. like, you moved on from him for a reason, my good bitch. keep it that way.

I am trying to think of any apocalypse movies where exes don’t get back together and closest maybe is World’s End - characters are running into each other 20 years after high school and the two characters who hooked up then definitely do not get back together because one’s matured, the other hasn’t.

Horror movie scenes where some black and white horror classic is playing on the TV in the background. It's not funny, it's not quirky, I'm so tired of seeing the exact same Night of the Living Dead or Nosferatu clips used over and over.

That's more of a copyright thing rather than a trope. Same reason why kids in movies only seem to watch really old weird cartoons they probably wouldn't actually like - there are few series and movies that have a copyright expiration loophole so they get put in everything.

When A knows very well what to do, us experienced, trained, what have you, tells B to stay out, do not go off into the night, etc. And B decides to pass go, collect $200, and skip jail. NO. STOP. CAN YOU NOT TRUST A?! AND B HAS NO DISCERNABLE SKILLS TO ADD ABD THEIR CHANCES OF DYING INCREASE 399 FOLD! WHYYYYYY STOP TRYING TO BE A HERO!!!

Love triangles and conveniently an orphan.

Honestly? Enemies to lovers. I find it so annoying because it's just everywhere! If I didn't see it constantly in fanfiction i'd probably like it more.

Please tell me what world you live in and the names of the enemies to lovers stories that exist therein. I cannot for the life of me satisfy my craving for this trope because everything that gets recommended as enemies to lovers is so tame they're hardly enemies at all. I need characters who are literally at each other's throats trying to kill each other, not arguing over who's better at basketball or whatever.

1.) Everyone pairs off neatly in the end regardless of any prior buildup, ESPECIALLY if it's all paired up within the group that the show is based on.

1a.) BABIES EVER AFTER
1b.) Are there two gay characters? THEY ARE NOW IN LOVE

2.) Amnesia

3.) I'm not sure if it's a trope so much as a narrative device but I hate it when things give you a sepia-toned flashback of some crucial line or event at the moment that the "truth" behind it is revealed. Treating the audience like they've all had blunt force trauma to the hippocampus.

4.) Rape for shock value/to show how "real" and "gritty" a scenario is

One character is sleeping, and a character with a crush moves to kiss them. Even if they don't actually kiss them, I just think bleh, they're sleeping, leave them alone.

This mainly in BL/danmei novels:

The "what no I'm totally straight ew I'm not getting bent" type MC, usually in transliteration settings. "Straight" MCs in general tend to be pretty annoying.

Also in transmigration novels: When the MC has read the book he transmigrated into and tries very hard to set up the ML with all his female harem members/love interests from the novel. I've seen at most two examples where this wasn't intensely cringey.

In general the transmigration genre isn't my favourite but what bothers me most is how the transmigrated person usually takes over the body of someone else who has died. The way they basically keep taking over another person's life and have to pretend to be that person makes me uncomfortable in 9 out of 10 cases. Especially when the character they pretend to be had loved ones that care about them.

Also when one character dies and the LI creepily keeps the corpse. I don't care if it's magically preserved, its still a corpse!

Not sure any of these count as tropes, but they definitely bug me:

1) zero to fucking in 1.3 seconds, especially for a previously slow burn couple. I get the need to overcompensate or "overcorrect" when it comes to UST but it doesn't have to be all tightly wound springs.

2) A couple with romantic potential or even slow burn, but nothing confirmed in the present. Fast forward 50 years: "ohai we got married and/or had kids! What, were you hoping for actual story or to bear witness to any of our milestones? lmao, sucks to be you, viewer/reader!"

1) tragic villains - i don't care, they're villains, they should be defeated not redeemed because somebody thinks they're hot

2) brave, strong, introverted, often precocious children who are actually secretly terrified and will move heaven and earth to get back to their mothers - maybe it's because my relationship with my mother is basically non-existent but this trope keeps coming back and it drives me nuts
