I'm not immune myself. I'm not afraid to admit it. I did have a hard time emotionally maturing as a teen-- I think a lot of us did. I really don't think there's any shame in that.

Largely speaking, people in our general age bracket (mid-20s/mid-30s) grew up in an incredibly weird time where the world changed so much right under our feet (i.e. the birth and absolute explosion of the internet as we know it, technology outpacing itself at breakneck speed, proliferation of information pulling down a few of the curtains that had been up around nasty goings-on in the world, etc.) that it's no shock we find comfort in stopping. Hell, in a lot of cases, it was our parents that did it (intentionally or not) to us, made us afraid to engage with the larger world.

So idk. Yes? In a lot of cases, we read YA because it's an easier fantasy to tap into. If you want to judge about it, feel free I guess, but who is it harming?

I agree with you, I think YA taps a lot more on the escapism side of fiction too. I read both, but I do tend to gravitate towards YA.
