Honestly, sometimes it is the creators not putting enough thought into their depiction of a story. Even if something was meant to "connect," it doesn't mean the connection itself was handled well.

But yes, it can be frustrating when you can see what symbolism was intended yet it's completely written off as lazy/wrong by fans who clearly had much different expectations.

I wouldn't hold my breath on stopping it, though. There's always going to be "that fan" in every audience.

Yeah, there have definitely been times where I could see what a creator was trying to get at, but they handled it so sloppily that it just never quite got there.
