Real talk, if Elden Ring had legit waifu elements I would have given Fia the Dark Moon Ring instead of Ranni. I think a lot of players would have.

And if you could give the ring to anybody, not just alternate ending NPCs, I would have given it to Merchant Kalé. Homeboy was good to me beginning to end.

Have you heard the theory (based on Malenia's cut dialogue) that there was supposed to be a quest with her culminating in the boss fight? And this quest most likely ended up being repurposed into Millicent's, meaning that Millicent was originally intended to be an amnesiac Malenia and by helping her we would have been progressing toward fighting and killing her?

I think about that every day.

I had not heard that and it would have been amazing and it makes me even more sad that’s not what we got. My clown shoes are tied in tight though. I’m holding out hope we haven’t seen the last of her since she’s (potentially) only bloomed twice.

I mean, after the flame of chaos ending or whatever it’s called, Fia’s ending seems to be the worst imo.

My fave is burning everything down and reveling in chaos though, so no judgement if a slow rotting demise is yours.

SA. Forgot about the poo poo man’s ending. That would make Fia’s the third most awful ending to me.

No one seems to agree on what the endings actually mean. One wiki thinks Fia’s goal is to get rid of immortality so everyone dies. A different wiki thinks the undead are automatically treated as having bad karma, and her goal is to rewrite the laws of karma so the undead are judged by their actions instead. I lean towards the latter interpretation, which makes her plan probably less of an improvement than Goldmask (I think he wants to make demigods capable of having bad karma if they abuse their position), but still quite sympathetic.

FWIW, my interpretation of Ranni is that she wants to replace the previous god with a god who has no particular interest in humanity’s actions and won’t enforce karma at all. She lets people decide for themselves what’s good and what’s evil.

I interpret her ending as removing death entirely and forever. When living creatures die now, their souls remain with their bodies (becoming those who live in death) instead of reincarnating. That’s why the Erd Tree was fading in her end. It has no souls returning to it to keep it alive. Eventually the whole of the Lands Between will be like Stormveil, rotten and dead.

But it’s a FromSoft game lol. Most interpretations likely have some validity.

Ranni’s I’m torn on and will admit her stans have made me not want to examine too deeply. Besides, Bloodborne taught me not to trust the moon lol.

I honestly think saying anyone in Elden Ring did "nothing wrong" is a stretch. In the sense that no choice is really a good choice, and most inhabitants have been around - alive or undead - for way too long in a sot of limbo.I do think, however, in the grand scale of things - Fia is one of the lesser evils, so to speak.
