Don't worry, nonny, Tom's meals are all magically lactose and diabetes friendly. Hey dilla-a-dillo.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I giggled, thank you!

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That does sound so yummy.

I imagine the green herbs are whatever local greens are growing. Sorrel or cannabis or something.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That would explain why Tom's so damn jolly...

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Chives and ramps, probably.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think that's more likely tbh.

But I like to headcanon him adding a little something extra!

Sorrel, purslane, bittercress... Any hedgerow greens I would guess.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL <3

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, to be honest, when I look at the meal, it's actually not that impressive. I mean butter, bread and cheese is obviously always delicious and a great meal but it's not exactly a stunning or novel thing to eat for dinner

But the idea of eating it while hanging out with Tom Bombadil.... that's what makes it stunning

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Sing-songy speech aside, if my husband asked me THREE DAMN TIMES within the space of ten seconds if dinner was ready, I'd be tempted to chuck the cheese and herbs at his head.

Goldberry has the patience of a saint.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It does make him sound very impatient! Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't help reading this food description as full of sexual connotations. Is it just me?

Not just you.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
...no? Please elaborate.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Cream I'll grant you, but past that? IDK

da

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I get the cream, the honeycomb, and the red berries.

Re: da

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
What's your logic for honeycomb and berries? I mean it just seems like anything I can think of would be a huge stretch.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-09 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
lol no, I get you Nonny.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-10 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
As someone who has that meal on the regular when berries are in season, cream, milk, and cheese are protein-loading (and along with the butter, also plenty of fat.) But yeah if you take the dairy out you don't have a meal left. I think part of the point of that 'feast' is that Bombadil is vegetarian - he and Goldberry don't kill. (Those are even all plant foods that don't kill the plants.)

If the main symptom of your lactose intolerance is farts though, I can't imagine that Tom Bombadil's house wouldn't be full of joyful farts anyway. It goes with the aesthetic.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-10 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
that's an image that's going to stay with me during my next read-through. Thank you, sincerely. Tom Bombadil's house of farts.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-10 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
Joyful farts.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-10 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Look, you can't tell me he doesn't have an entire song on the topic of "better out than in".

(Anonymous) 2022-10-10 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I would totally eat cheese for dinner if my stomach allowed it, I love cheese. But uh... yeah, farts aren't the only symptom of my lactose intolerance, sadly. And mine wouldn't be joyful, LOL.
