Actually, it confuses me that people take Eurovision seriously. Here in England we just treat it like a huge joke.

Yeah, I mean let's face it; winning the ESC is a terrific PR opportunity for a country. The host country makes millions and get to showcase themselves. That's a lot of PR and goodwill.

A country like the UK doesn't really need more tourists, sponsorship deals or attention. Especially now that you have the olympics coming up.

That's why you don't put so much effort into the ESC, which you could easily win.

But to many other countries, winning the ESC means a lot to them. Russia spent a tremendous amount of money on promotion last year in order to win.

Actually, hosting the Eurovision costs a lot of money. Ireland won three times in a row and it almost bankrupted our national broadcaster

To this day we send shit acts that haven't a hope of winning

I thought that was a myth and that the majority of the cost is covered by sponsors and the EBU. But maybe that's something they've changed in recent years?

Last year, our candidate was actually a comedian parodying reggaeton. I don't think many people from outside Spain got it, which actually made it funnier, lol.

As shown by the fact that the Eurovulsion competition to find our rep is hosted and lead by an Irish man.

It's not serious, it's a joke. Almost everyone knows it's crap but it's a bit of a laugh so...

but we should probably stop paying so much money though, the contest is a bit crap.
