IKR. It's weird because we get the Wogan commentary here as well and while his sarcasm is usually enjoyable, as soon as it gets all geopolitical with the voting, he legitimately sounds pissed off. Especially last year. I mean, it's kind of like the rest of western Europe really, they SO TOTATLLY DON'T CARE, OMG LAME, but also don't actually want to go through the humiliation of sending in someone good in case they lose. And yet there's all this bitterness that the other countries also aren't taking it too seriously as a purely talent driven contest and are just voting roughly according to their ethnic demographics?

:((( I hadn't heard about that! Eurovision with Terry Wogan is a kind of institution, really. Over here, they tried to replace him with a local (Australian) commentator a couple of years back and there were letters written in our newspapers in protest. I felt so sorry for the replacement guy because he was pretty quick and also viewed the whole thing with a healthy sense of irony, but still... needless to say we were Wogan-ed up the next year.

And oh, they're getting Graham Norton as a replacement? Hmm...IDK how I feel about that. Well it will certainly be different. He likes to point out the ridiculous a bit too obviously, I think.

I think we're getting our own this year, though. Julia Zemiro, I believe - which is good, as she's pretty strongly associated with it XD Might not be as much hatemail since NO one is getting Wogan! And Julia's pretty cool.

Awesome! She's great and does actually seem to be fond of the event which is crucial. I will so miss Wogan's ever more drunken scoffs of bemusement as the night wore on though. *sings a requiem for the guy*

Yeah, it wouldn't make sense for us to get Norton too (and I'm secretly kind of glad).

ALSO. Totally spot on in your rant about block voting. Clicked on the link and felt myself nodding along to all your points. Ugh, you just want to tell all the haters to come back when you've got a more complex point that takes into account differences in national sentiment, European immigration patters, and cultural imperialism thnx!

I'm looking forward to her ^_^ Heh, I was just at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and she hosted Eurovision 2010 - holy SHIT that was fun XD

And yes... I have to admit, I'm a tiny bit glad Wogan is gone. Last year's commentary was really... bitter, by the end.

And thanks :) It's going to be pretty damn tricky at the best of time to come up with a voting scheme that works! But still, the maths doesn't even work the way most haters assume - say, you can discuss a Scandinavian block all giving twelve points to, say, Norway, but unless the Norwegian song is good enough that many other countries also vote for it, it still won't be enough to win it!
