Notes:

I've just been deleting a lot of random secrets that are recycling ancient FS memes ("can't unsee these unrelated pictures, would hit random thing, I wish this scene had ended in 'hot non-con sex'") and one person that makes a different secret about a certain actor every week trying to be as wacky as possible.

It does look like that!

There really is no scandal. The Try Guys made something out of nothing. It was a personal matter and they just blew it up. Who the fuck are they anyway. I never heard of them before this.

To the extent that what happened with the Try Guys isn't a scandal because the Try Guys shouldn't matter and no one should pay attention to anything they do, I agree with you.

But the employment angle makes it not just a personal matter

This. ^^

The media circus is what blew it up; they didn't really have any control over that. Their fanbase was rampantly speculating, commenting on videos and their personal Instagrams, asking for clarification for about a week before they released that explanation video. The video was for their fanbase, but the internet loves a good "scandal" so it all got blown outside of their sphere. Of course you don't care lol why would you? At this point they've said they hope they never have to address it again, so they'd probably agree with you.

He was fucking his employee while being head of HR.

That isn't personal anymore.

Christ, tell me you'd cheat on your partner without telling me you'd cheat on your partner if you had any power to do so.

He was fucking his employee while being head of HR.

DA - Unless the person he was fucking alleges that she felt coerced, or even just pressured by him, I do not see this as anything more than stupid, selfish, and unprofessional.

NAYRT - even if the relationship was totally consensual, and even if you think that the affair is private business that's not our concern, it's still a big professional error for him and a big problem for his company, not just a personal matter. and he has a public-facing role so it's hard to get around that without it becoming public.

people do need to have more of a sense of proportion though.

In situations like this, when you may feel like you could lose your job if you refuse, it can be hard for employees to not feel coerced in some way. That’s why these types of relationships with a power imbalance, especially if the person is your boss, are so frowned upon. Even forbidden in some cases. It can be difficult for the employee to know how they really feel when in these situations, because relationships like these are frequently inherently coercive and predatory. With some exceptions.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not impossible at all that she consented to the relationship completely without feeling coerced in any way, and I’m not trying to downplay her autonomy in making her own decisions. Just explaining why some people consider this aspect of the scandal alarming.

Even if in some cases it would be OK, if he was *head of HR* (and in a company that size, he was probably *all* of HR) it's never OK. Other employees need to feel safe coming to HR if they're feeling coerced or harassed by somebody else, and in that situation they couldn't.

I didn't know that part.
And don't assume that I'd cheat on my partner.

I did know about the Try Guys before this, but I somehow missed the actual scandal and just skipped to people talking about how dumb the whole thing is. What was the scandal? What happened?

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
The Try Guy whose whole thing was being the wife guy (his catchphrase was "my wife, my baby") cheated with an employee. The other guys found out and while they were working on getting the cheater out, it got leaked to the fans. There was a lot of speculation until the official announcement came out that the cheater will no longer be working with them.

It sucks for them because they are losing a friend and that (former) friend put their company at risk by hooking up with an employee (who was also engaged). They are likely going to lose their Food Network deal and they're having to rebrand to remove the guy who cheated from upcoming videos and (probably) merchandise.

Oh, okay, thanks.

Yeah sucks for them, but as scandals go, extremely boring. No wonder nobody's talking about the actual scandal part.

The Try Guy who was most enthusiastically in love with his wife had an affair with an employee

This is a very good caption for this photo
