Notes:

I've just been deleting a lot of random secrets that are recycling ancient FS memes ("can't unsee these unrelated pictures, would hit random thing, I wish this scene had ended in 'hot non-con sex'") and one person that makes a different secret about a certain actor every week trying to be as wacky as possible.

Same! Honestly, I kind of assume it doesn't even get on the radar because female actors probably just assume that they're supposed to be shaved to wear clothes that show legs/pits and will be awkwardly asked to if they don't... I see plenty of people irl who don't shave one or both, I think it's way more normal than it would seem from fiction.

This this this this. And also, I like body hair and would like to see more of it.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-14 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
On females?

(Anonymous) 2022-10-14 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt, but yes. Especially if it doesn't make sense for the story, but also just in general, women with no hair except on their heads just don't look right to me. People have body hair.

AYRT

Yes, on any gender. I'm bi and I love hair on women even more then on men, tbh.

Very few things in movies or TV grind my gears more than the characters clearly having access to unseen razors in historical or post-apocalyptic settings for the sole purpose of maintaining modern beauty standards

(Anonymous) 2022-10-14 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
This, I so agree with you.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Especially when all the male characters are grubby and unshaven. It stands out so much more when all the guys have stubble and longer hair and yet all the women are perfectly shaved.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 09:19 am (UTC)(link)
And then there's me, who's tired of everyone talking about that like they're smart for noticing this and pointing out that it's unrealistic. Nobody thinks it's realistic, it's just that we don't care about historical accuracy snobbery.

As a lesbian who is extremely attracted to body hair THIS. GIVE ME AT THE VERY LEAST HAIRY ARMPITS OMG I'M STARVING HERE
If someone know about modern movies starring actresses with hairy armpits etc PLEASE drop the name

(Anonymous) 2022-10-14 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a good comment, I agree and I support you

(Anonymous) 2022-10-16 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
In Deadpool 2 Domino's unshaven. There's not many shots of her pits, but the hair is clearly there when you do see them.

Man, this. So sick of the knee-jerk 'no hair' bullshite that exists EVEN WHEN the character has ...been crash-landed on a damn mountain for a month, or is a character from an earlier time-period when that wasn't a 'thing' (sorry, I doubt Ma Ingalls shaved....)

Just...quit with all the shaving and waxing for EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER EVER.

Yeah same. And someone always says "well maybe the actress didn't want to not shave/wax" like there aren't increasingly improving ways around that.

I'm pretty sure if I were suddenly dropped into an apocalyptic scenario, my body hair would be among the first things I don't give a shit about. I'd have a bare minimum requirement of "can I bathe in a river?" I'd also definitely be MUCH more worried about how I'm going to see without contact lenses and if my glasses break too.

I think it should show up more because it is totally cool for women not to shave, and that needs to be acknowledged in media.

On the other hand, as someone really grossed out by body hair (especially armpit hair, ew), I'd love to see more at least less-hairy men.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
same, in grossness factor. I have this visceral childhood memory of teenage boys playing basketball with huge gross globs of deodorant clumped in their 2" long armpit hair that has made me stick to as little hair as possible in my adult life. I'm super grossed out by body hair so outside of apocalypse scenarios (in which I agree why is anyone shirtless or only in tank tops?? shirts plz) I am usually ok with clean-shaven portrayals regardless of gender.

I think body hair is sexy. On all genders. So yes, a little variety onscreen would be great.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm all for it. It's sexist and stupid that there's a social stigma against women who don't shave, and seeing some cool female characters with body hair might help slowly normalize the idea of body hair on women being neutral.

That said, I dislike most body hair on pretty much everyone. I'm fairly neutral on arm hair and sometimes leg hair, but chest hair, armpit hair, and pubes are at least mildly unsexy to me. So when it comes to fanfic specifically, my personal preference is definitely for minimal body hair. However, fanfic is the only place where I care enough to have a preference. It wouldn't turn me off if a character had body hair in original fiction (unless it was erotica), because I'm not typically looking for that kind of "Pls cater directly to my Id" experience from original fiction.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well for one reason is probably the history of women getting rape/death threats from men for appearing in the media with body hair.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, women get rape/death threats from men for appearing in the media at all, so I don't think "actor safety" is a big reason behind it.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Yes yes yes
We need more body hair in movies

Not only all this post-apocalyptic movies with invisible razors, shaved legs etc started to look just wrong to me.
(Tbf Z Nation had a funny joke about shaving and doing makeup in apocalypse, so they get a small pass)

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
May I recommend Mozart in the Jungle, it has a lead woman with unshaved armpits and no one makes a big deal of it (also Gael Garcia Bernal!)

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
... I've never noticed

(Anonymous) 2022-10-15 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone remember the one HIMYM episode where Robin was desperate to shave her legs in a restaurant bathroom during a date..? Sheesh that was terrible
