Notes:

I've just been deleting a lot of random secrets that are recycling ancient FS memes ("can't unsee these unrelated pictures, would hit random thing, I wish this scene had ended in 'hot non-con sex'") and one person that makes a different secret about a certain actor every week trying to be as wacky as possible.

Hmmmm... As someone who absolutely loves writing but is only able to write single stories in more or less the word range of 500-1500 words, specifically for prompt challenges, bingo challenges etc, where that range is highly encouraged, I 100% disagree. My fanfics that are under 2500 words (which I have about 470 of on AO3) don't suddenly stop being fanfics. On the contrary. Challenges like Writer's Month or AU-gust or Flufftober are specifically there to challenge you to write (and yes, post) one fic a day. Good on you if you can churn out a fic a day that's over 2500 words long, I can't and won't attempt to.

These challenges are amazing to enable myself to do the thing I enjoy doing a lot, writing and fulfilling a challenge (which is why I post what I'm writing, it's part of the fun). I don't actually care if anyone reads my fics or not (I get more or less zero engagement anyways since I write gen for tiny fandoms, so...). I have tried Nanowrimo and other longfic challenges often enough to say with certainty that they are not for me. Good on you if you're a strictly longfic writer but I am a very strictly shortfic writer.

Also, livejournal is already dead, landcomms are basically dead, you're advocating for the death of the last hold out of these kind of challenge based communities, which I find extremely sad. But yeah, commentfic thankfully still exists, and I'm sure everyone in that community and in all the others I've mentioned (plus a lot of bingocomms that are thankfully also still existent plus many many exchanges only three I know of which have a minimum word count over 2500 words) would laugh in your face if you tell them what they're producing isn't fic.

Funny enough, I've been in a writing slump since August (writing a fic a day for two months straight since I wanted to finish both AU-gust and Writer's Month, which I did in the end, is quite challengiing and I always need a bit of a breather afterwards), but this really motivated me to get back to it, so thank you for that. I will soon populate AO3 with more 500-1500 word fic and you can continue to filter them out via AO3's very handy filter system. It's a win-win! :D
