That's an ages old convention from BL. Decades of manga where the bottom has light brown or blond hair.

My main encounters with BL are in live action adaptations and most BL tropes are unfamiliar to me. This is just weird and annoying, I agree.

Yeah I guess it would be too butch if the bottom had dark or black hair /sarcasm.

It's a whole set of tropes - shorter, more slightly built, lighter hair, bigger eyes. I can't think of any BL adaptations that don't lean in to at least some of those.

Visualizations of most written works often ignore the text and go for common tropes/what the new creator(s) want instead. It's really annoying
