I've got the challenge coin that came with buying the DVD of that film waaay back along! I first played Zork on a C64 when I was 6 years old, for a value of "played" that basically means "couldn't even get into the house because of vocabulary fail". Half my website is my personally written walkthroughs for Infocom games.

I never view using hints or walkthroughs as "cheating", though. I am much more interested in experiencing all of the story than I am in the "purity" of solving a game without help.

I was never able to get very far into Zork, but I was addicted to those text-based adventure games even though I wasn't very good at them. Hmm, maybe I should download Zork and try playing it now I have access to hints and walkthroughs (and am not a child). I think it's great that people provide them!

There's something about the text-based format that engages my imagination more than all the fancy graphics in the world, tbh.

I have happy memories of spending hours and hours and hours on the Hitch Hiker's Game too, OP!

Oh yes, my brother and I would play Hitchhiker's for hours, one of us at the keyboard and the other one making maps and writing down possible clues!

But those old games were dead easy to cheat at, you just had to know someone who'd printed out a cheat sheet, usually the same person you got a copy of the game off in the first place.
