yeah you do not under any circumstances have to hand it to Freaks (1932). but I think OP's sentiment is still fair even without defending Freaks as a movie

Yes, disability representation still lags far behind most other kinds of representation on screen... and most of the people talking about diversity and representation don't even think about it, or at least rarely ever mention it. Even when the Academy was forced to respond to the #OscarsSoWhite movement, and gave out a statement covering every kind of minority group they could think of, they didn't mention people with disabilities once.

I think British TV is maybe a bit better on this. At least Idris Elba's BAFTA speech on diversity included disabled people. But yeah I could rant about this a lot.

I legit love this movie (because I identify with the "freaks," and I love how they get their revenge).

Also, you make a very fair point about the movie industry.
