Yeah, there's definitely people that argue that aliens are magic, even if it's not the most common view. But then again there's also that one guy that claims Bigfoot is an alien and also some kind of interdimensional psychic, and I definitely wouldn't include Bigfoot as Halloween-y.

Much to consider.

That's the thing with cryptids. Jersey Devil's arguably Halloweeny. Bigfoot less so, although psychics can be Halloweeny, so a psychic bigfoot might count. Also, "Bigfoot Tangina Barrons" would be an awesome Halloween costume.

Where does Mothman fall on this scale? He seems like the most Halloweeny of the American cryptids to me

I would labels the ends Mystical/Monstrous and Pseudo-scientific, with Mothman near the left end and Bigfoot near the right, and the Jersey Devil somewhere between Mothman and the center. Even though they're not a cryptid, per se, aliens make sense to the right of Bigfoot, which is why I agree that they aren't very Spooky.
