I don't think the show ignore that. I think the show makes that very clear. He's a screw up, but he does have some useful skills. And hopefully as the show goes on he'll learn and grow.

Also, his mother/Marcia Harden is amazing and I would watch the show just for her.

I stopped watching Bake-Off several seasons ago because I hate Paul Hollywood, so hearing about this was just a big heaping pile of schadenfreude. There are a very small number of authentic Mexican places in the UK, mostly in London, but the cuisine itself is very much unknown. I can't say I'd do any better, but I don't PUT IT ON NATIONAL TV.
