(Anonymous) 2022-10-23 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)Obviously I'm against advertising commissions and Kofi ON AO3, but for the most part people that I have seen in my experience have linked their twitter/tumble/etc and just tend to word it as a suggestion rather than money = fan works.
With that being said, with the exception of star trek I have largely been in fandom's that are either YouTube based or from obscured/out of date media that seeing commissions for them is barely a threat since a lot of the fan works have mostly been based on fandom's head canons/creations than the original source.
Like I say it literally depends on the type of fandom's - if you're in one where you have next to no chance of getting sued then eh might as well go for it; but the ones based on mega corporate owned media are the ones who REALLY play with fire and can fuck over the entirety of fandom with just one serious lawsuit, which is bad.
(In addition the ones I straight up laugh at are people with the audacity to try and get people to pay through their patrion in order to read their fabrics - when I can literally get fan fiction for free. I have yet to come across a story where I would be desperate enough to pay to see the rest).
