I fucking told people RTD would be a shitshow. I told people he'd somehow bring back his own fucking "glory days" because RTD is a hack.

People didn't believe me, but here we are.

Spoilers, but apparently the Doctor has just regenerated back into David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor. Ncuti Gatwa will be playing the Fifteenth Doctor instead.

But is the episode good or bad?

I'm a lifelong fan as in, I was born (just) when the show was originally airing and I watched repeats with my dad during the hiatus.

I quite liked it. Wasn't amazing but wasn't terrible, I found it better than The Timeless Children, which I didn't like at all. It was pure fanservice and I'm still not sure about some of the plot decisions in relation to the lore but I liked the callbacks and that it addressed that of course you'd be a bit fucked up as a former companion and want to find others to talk to about it.

Horrible, as a portent to come. It's basically nostalgiabait and RTD wanking himself and going, "See??? Ten! You remember Ten and how amazing I--er, I mean he was, right!?"

Wasn't this one written by Chibbers? What does RTD have to do with it?

I like Tennant and dislike Ncuti. So there.

Tennant's Doctor need to be retired and never come back because all RTD is doing is using him to wank himself into dust

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the character shows up at the end of the most recent special after 13 regenerates, and then 14 and 15 are going to be around for the next special, and then 15 is going to be the main primary doctor once it gets into an actual season?

So - apart from anything else - how do you know that RTD is "using him to wank himself into dust" if you haven't seen any of the actual appearances of the character yet?

Because why even bring back Ten if not for wankery

Why bring back doctors ever? It's not like multi-doctor stories are a new concept in Who

Okay but those are crossover episodes, not. "Ten is also the new regeneration."

It's no surprise that Tennant was coming back. New images of the Doctor-Donna have been out for months. It'll be a few specials for the 60th before a new season proper. 10 is not my favourite Doctor, and I'd be just as happy if he never returned, but I think the specials could be a lot of fun. Something very lacking for me the past few years of the show.

The episode hasn't aired here yet, but I read the spoilers and thought it was pretty obvious that was gonna happen when we found out David Tennant and Catherine Tate were back.

Ugh. I hope they come up with a better explanation than this being the Doctor's favorite face or something like that. Tennant's Doctor is so overrated.

I can already visualize the people at the bbc getting desperate for doctor who to regain any kind of popularity it once had and instantly approved of Tennant because of it.

I also notice that for the most part, especially with it being the celebration of the BBC's 100th year - most of the reference to Doctor Who in trailers or overall "The BBC is amazing!!" footage have largely consisted of anyone one (mostly between the 10th and 11th doctor) before Jodi's doctor.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it but for a while either the BBC didn't really want to acknowledge Jodi's doctor running up until her last episode or maybe She has had enough beyond what she had to do for the show near the end of her run. It's especially telling with the bullshit that went down with making the Flux series (by cutting the episodes down from 10 to 8 and then only 6 episodes when it looked like filming had already started, so the story line had to be altered and seem to set it up to fail due to not getting the popularity that DW had in the past).

Even though I'm one of the people who really haven't been enjoying this run of Doctor who, I do feel particularly depressed about the fact that the first 'female Doctor' is going to get the 2000s Catwoman movie treatment as an excuse to never let a woman be the doctor again "because look what happened when we did!!" ideology. Nevermind that even with a male lead the stories would have still been pretty bad - mediocre.

I'm just grateful the current shitshow is over. Let the decade's worth of fixfics begin.

Maybe my standards are just low, but I really don’t care about David Tennant being the Fourteenth Doctor as long as the specials end up being fun. Thirteen’s final episode was sort of a mess plot-wise, but man was it fun and it’s easily one of my favorite episodes from her run.

So you're telling me that the fifth person playing the role of Doctor in this era of the show was an upbeat likable blonde who often played the role as distinctly alien, suffered from often poor quality during their tenure due largely to the incompetence of the person in charge of writing their scripts, and whose final episode was also one of the strongest of their run
