I'm more bothered when they make a big deal out of conventionally attractive young women (stressing their physical beauty) and do the same thing. This happens so often.

That happens so often that it feels like it's a load-bearing structural element for the genre as a whole, unfortunately

Yup, unfortunately. There's always got to be some specific and usually very traditional reason why it's an extra extra shame someone died... as if the loss of a human life isn't bad enough unless it's a beautiful young woman, or a veteran, or a mother, or a church-going family, etc. etc.

I’m really sick of so many crime shows starting out with an attractive young white woman running through the woods terrified. I’d like a little variety.

TV Tropes has an entry for some show where a white woman and a black woman go missing at the same time, and the media only focuses on the white woman. In the end, it’s confirmed that one lived and one died, but not which was which. I think it was on the Missing White Woman Syndrome page.
