Honestly, there's something really satisfying about reading predictable, tropey fic. There's a reason that those stories are so common as to be predictable! There's a reason these tropes are so popular! There's a reason these beats keep getting used again and again! (But then at the same time, if you're not already 100% on board with the ship, it can be very aggravating and bad, lol)

It makes me wonder about the logistics. Did the maids see the couple checking in and then run to the room to draw a bath and sprinkle rose petals (which they totally just had on hand) in it and run away before the couple got to the room? Did the couple get in the room and notice the bath before it had cooled down too much? Did the maids just put rose petals in an empty bathtub and let the couple draw their own bath at their leisure?

Also, do flower petals clog pipes?

Nah, it's a change from the routine, better than picking up garbage and that. Petals smell nice, look lovely, and it doesn't take that long to spread them out.

One of my favourite fics of all time is a smutty RPF for actors I don’t even ship but it was so perfectly written blending their movie characters into it and I don’t ship them either but it still managed to be the hottest thing ever.

I'm more surprised that you at all expected the fic to be in any way unique given the fact it was RPF. (piling on top a roadtrip!romance really adds on to the side eyes I'm giving you here...)
I've learned to expect peoples complete lack of awareness when it comes to characterization when writing established characters, but to think any one body expects anything but the worst of the worst of reader/self-insert fiction (as RPF truly is) really boggles my mind.

Then again, I still avidly look to read fanfic myself- and as it turns out, the absolute lack of interest/care people have in regards to character, at any instant, probably means I'd be better off reading RPF in the first place. So like, I guess I'm just jealous man. (share please?)
