...Weird, I was just thinking of the Snapewives for the first time in years this week (because I joined a Discord server devoted to one particular character, and apparently several of the other folks there are too young to recall...)

Snape, mass bigamist.

You know what, OP?
You go! Whooo! I hope you enjoy the hell out of it. :D

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you an honest to goodness Snapewife, nonny??

OP

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
No, not anymore! And I wasn't in any of the Snapeist communities. It was something I did years and years ago, not a current obsession lol. But I was derangedly batshit back then in my own way, omg.

We all have weird stuff in our past, anon :)

Snapewives!! Hey, you brought me a lot of joy back then and I am even happier to know you're still hanging around and (I hope!) doing well. Best wishes from someone who was similarly deranged about fandom!

If I'd heard of the astral plane at that age, I would absolutely have astrally married the Phantom of the Opera.

Christine Daaé, is that you?

(talking about the fan who legally changed her name, not the character)

I know someone who basically did exactly that. Not literally married I don't think, but had some kind of deep relationship.

Do astral marriages recognize divorce?

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Who would have the authority to grant an astral divorce, anyway?

Important questions to consider

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
by Adventure Time rules, I would guess the cosmic Owl.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they would have to recognize a conscious uncoupling, right?

Possibly, but it's better to see if you can swing an astral annulment. For example, you could argue that the marriage wasn't astrally consumated, or that one entity deliberately misrepresented itself to the other. In today's secret-writer's case, if they were legally too young to be married on their plane without parental consent, an annulment could be granted on the basis that the marriage is invalid in one or more planes of existence.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm SURE you qualify for annulment!

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
someday somebody's going to write a book about their experiences as a Snapewife and it's going to be a bestseller.

(Anonymous) 2022-10-30 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Is THIS what the whole Snapewaives thing was?!! I wasn’t in that fandom and HP fandom had pretty much already imploded by the time I got off the Yahoo and angelfire web rings and started fandoming on LJ. If this came after I made the switch, it never got any mention in my fandoms.

I think OP was much younger than the more famous Snapewives. I'm referring to the two that got in some kind of fight over which one was really his wife. I think they were in their 40s or something like that. But it's been a while since I read about them.

I once asked Cyan Garamonde to marry me in a LiveJournal post. I had a handle on the fact that he's a fictional character, but still, I won't judge.

...That's a pretty darned good choice of fictional character to propose to though.

Mazel Tov!

I’m still married to JC Chasez from a “marry your favourite *Nsync member” websites. Two decades and still going strong.

May you both have many happy years upon the astral plane <3

(Anonymous) 2022-10-31 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Lmaoooo

While I was in love with Lance Bass (who would never love me back that way anyhow, on account of I'm a woman), JC Chases was my runner up, if only because I felt like he was the superior talent (Justin had charisma, but I couldn't stand his face or voice, didn't like him at all, but did like his solo music).

Does "till death do you part" not count for the astral plane?

(Anonymous) 2022-10-31 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly not, because Snape died before the second book came out, so if death mattered on the astral plane, the Snapewives wouldn't have been able to marry him in the first place

You know what, I feel the same way about Jack Sparrow, except we never actually got married, it was a complicated relationship, and I'll always think of him as someone very dear and special. Still love him, but in a different way now. Similar to people who have an amicable divorce. I consider him my first husband (well, ex-husband) who I am still cordial with.
