To me personally there is just so much tokenism going on lately.

And I don't like those that are supposed to represent my traits but I can't speak for others obviously.

A lot of it is just so lazy. And at this point I'd rather have no representation rather that shitty representation, because in the first case I can just watch and not be annoyed.

AYRT - exactly this, unfortunately. Not to mention the occasional fandom discourse that makes one want to go "well, actually... speaking from experience... you're wrong".

FOR REAL. I'm so tired of representation being shoved in purely to make people shut up instead of because the creators actually had a genuine desire for representation.

This so much. I just really, really hate being pandered to. Being preached to is also very annoying, though I'll give the preaching more leeway than the pandering. Either way, just...don't make it some phoned in bullshit with no understanding of the complexities of the issue. The narrative doesn't even need to unpack said complexities, as long as I get the sense the writers are aware they're there.

Hard disagree, as someone who has been represented shittily. Shitty representation prompts discussion and people who can do better to try. No representation leaves it more likely that you stay under the radar and unrepresented forever.

And often the "shitty" representation isn't an opinion shared by everyone. I've had representation I liked be thrown into the "bad representation" bin by others like me because it was too problematic, not problematic enough (the character was "too perfect"), or just didn't resonate with the individual critic.

If it is shitty in the sense of just shallow and surface level, then hard disagree. You can still build on that. Shitty in that it is all negative stereotypes or villainous representation, then hard agree. That shit is harmful, as JK Rowling has flat out proven by this point. Keep minorities out of villain roles, for now anyway.
