You know that you are allowed to not care about Taylor Swift, right? You don't have to listen to her albums and you don't have to have a reaction to her music. It's ok to just ignore her.

I mean, there are several Taylor Swift fans ITT and exactly one ad hominem comment by the pro-swift side, among lots of civil debate. That's an above average outcome for this comm when a debate gets going.

Bottom line, any sufficiently large group is going to have toxic members, and the bigger the group the more toxic members it will have, purely on the basis of probability. There is not more toxicity per capital among taylor swift fans than there is among the fans of any other musical pop artist, so unless you're out here calling every popular artist's fans "crazed poodles" (cant imagine why they'd be hostile towards someone who describes them that way), it's pretty clear you're nurturing a bias against swift fans specifically.

Interesting take, but given that this thread is full of TS fans who swarmed the thread to either imply that OP's stupid for "not getting" Taylor (very first comment and many others that followed) or to tell OP and others that they need to keep their mouths shut if they can't say nice things about Taylor's songs, I think you may have a different definition of civil than most people. Now granted, it could be one very dedicated poodle trying to make the rest of you look bad. But you're fans, not cops. You're allowed to point out that one of your own is acting out without being thrown out of the fandom. But, much like cops, if you don't police your own it makes you all look like a bunch of rabid poodles. Sorry.

I'm not particularly a Taylor fan but I don't think that's what's happening here.

If OP just said they didn't like her music, I doubt anyone would give a shit. What people don't like is the whole "she's rich and white so she's not allowed to have emotions or talk about her emotions" thing. It's incredibly possible to criticize Taylor's music without just saying that she shouldn't feel emotions. The problems that people are pointing out have to do with this one specific critique, not with critiques in general, because this specific critique is very very dumb.

There's as far as I can see one pro-Taylor person who was actually shitty about criticism, and everyone told them to fuck off.
