(Anonymous) 2022-11-07 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)But it’s not a contradiction here. To contradict would be to assert the opposite of a statement made by themselves or another person’s statement. Saying “nobody would think those are the only two options” wasn’t a contradiction, because there was nothing to indicate anyone thought that at the time. And I haven’t seen anyone genuinely interpret it that way either way. If anyone did think that was what was being interpreted later, it was after they said “nobody” would think that. And since it happened after, they’re not contradicting themselves or anyone else because what they said was still true until a different person came along, they just turned out to be incorrect that nobody would think that. And the anon who asked the question said “nobody would think those are the only two options”, not “nobody would interpret it as only two options” or whatever you’re trying to say with “nobody would interpret it the way it was being interpreted”.
