She's gotta be in her mid-twenties at the start of the show given her career qualifications--plenty old enough that even if it were real life, I would say it was nobody else's business who she was romantically and/or sexually involved with. I mean, I guess if it were real life there would be issues with them being co-workers, and I'm assuming he had seniority in their department? So sure, IRL it would be dodgy for that reason.

But A, fiction is not real life, and B, you just know the loudest of the antis would be acting like Abbey was thirteen years old and "practically his granddaughter" or some shit like that. *eyeroll*

If you go by the actors ages, Abby would have been 34 in season one, which is plenty old enough.

Apparently in 2009 (which I think was around S6 or so) she was described in-universe as being "late twenties," so I figured the character was meant to be a fair bit younger than the actress. Which makes sense to me given how youthful I remember her seeming in those early seasons (aka the last time I actually watched the show). Which is not to say that a 34-year-old woman can't act youthful (I'm 35 and I probably project a fair bit younger in manner as well as appearance), or that people aren't free to read her as whatever age they want.

Unless she was a child prodigy, I find it hard to believe she would have had held that position in her mid-20s. She'd have barely held a Masters by that point. Especially as it's shown she's obviously known Gibbs for a while.

Way more likely she was 34 and had worked there for years, and had hacked her records to lower her age.
