Two random questions

(Anonymous) 2022-11-12 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
1.) If you take out a corner piece of a solved Rubik's cube and put it back in the wrong way around, does it become impossible to re-solve without removing a piece again? Or can it always be solved no matter what?

2.) Where do people ask random questions like this now that Yahoo Answers is gone?

Quora is one Q-and-A site. Not... entirely reliable, but a start.

And I'm pretty sure (without being a Rubik's Cube expert) that that would make it unsolveable.

I assume like, Reddit? Maybe also Twitter except, obviously, that's not so much of an option right this particular second

Yes, that would mess up the solvability of the cube. I found the answer here:

https://www.quora.com/Is-it-possible-for-a-Rubiks-Cube-to-become-unsolvable-if-it-has-not-been-taken-apart

If this is something you're thinking of inserting in a fic, then keep in mind that, judging by the top answer given on the page I linked you to, a very savvy solver will likely recognize by their flawed solve that one or more corners have been twisted, and may be able to simply twist it back into place and solve the puzzle despite the attempted sabotage.

I know how to solve a Rubik's Cube, but sadly I don't have the kind of spatial intelligence to grasp the "why" of it all. You just follow a number of protocols in the right order and it gives you a solve. So I'm not qualified to answer the question myself. But the answer I linked you to definitely sounds like a person who understands Rubik's Cubes beyond the surface protocol of how to solve them.
