Spirk.

right??? like, hate to break it to OP but...

Yeah, having never been in Trek fandom, I honestly don't know if the use of a portmanteau is standard for this pairing, but even I know that if one IS going to use a portmanteau, it's Spirk.

Today is the first day of my life I have ever pondered the nature of said topic.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-15 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I've thought about it because, as a Mulder/Scully shipper, it is nails on a chalk board for me when newbs come along and start referring to shipping 'Sculder.'

If you want to abbreviate, it's M/S or MSR. The original series ran for nine years and 'Sculder' (or 'Mully' for that matter) was not a thing.

Is it inconsequential? Yes. Can I force people to adhere to the old ways? No. I just find it annoying is all.

Not a thing? My first e-mail was literally sculder79 back in 94/95ish

(Anonymous) 2022-11-16 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That was your personal email. Find me a fic that was recced using the term "sculder." Find me an archive that used the word "sculder." I'll wait.

You two literally just gave me Usenet flashbacks, lol. Around the time the movie was coming out (‘97? ‘98?) and there were a lot of rumors, there were a handful of fans on alt.tv.x-files who were really trying to make Sculder a thing and about an equal number of people who were deeply offended by it. I’m sure that you can find traces of the arguments if you really want to. I’m also reasonably sure that angelfire and geocities died and took their sculder fic with it.

Bless you!

(Anonymous) 2022-11-15 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I've always heard, and always thought it was a shame because the options OP pointed out were clearly superior.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-15 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Spork is clearly superior.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-14 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
lmfao <3

(Anonymous) 2022-11-15 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Aside from the Spirk of it all - their expressions in this picture are really spot on.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-15 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, agreed.

Kirk is bemused but curious, Spock is perturbed but intrigued.

When ship names are funny or dirty, that's the only time I like using ship names rather than character names. It always amuses me when it works out to be funny and dirty.

I always loved Caskett for Castle/Beckett.

There's a reason I just don't do portmanteaus.....

(Anonymous) 2022-11-15 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
A spork is a spoon-fork!

(Anonymous) 2022-11-15 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
That's why it's funny

(Anonymous) 2022-11-15 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes I wonder whether some of you guys make your secrets while you're really high.

(Anonymous) 2022-11-15 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Given that I discovered shipping during the zine era, to me the ship is K/S (pronounced "kiss" in my head) everything else is wrong and I refuse to use it.
