Yes, it aged like milk - even if it hadn't got any of the widely known and acknowledged problematic stuff, the misery of it would make me avoid it.

I remember thinking it was hilarious in the 80s but I’m never going to try watching it again.

+1, watched it with my parents in the 80s and enjoyed it (though even then there was stuff that was not great, like Manuel) but I'm not going anywhere near anything John Cleese does again!

+2

John Cleese has become truly unbearable.

I remember back in the 80s I half loved it, but half found it relied too much on the comedy of discomfort for my taste. I don't think I'd attempt to watch it again now, pretty sure the cringe would outweigh whatever elements I liked when I was a teen.

It hasn't aged well but it's certainly an interesting relic from its time.

??? I love this show and have been looking for it on DVD forever too but I know not everybody likes it.

did like it in the mid 90s but hate it now

All I remember was having a crush on the woman who was a maid there when I was a kid.

I loved Andrew Sach's performance as Manuel. obviously it's dated writing, and Basil's a xenophobe and general asshole (but we're supposed to think he's an asshole).

I find the second-hand embarrassment unbearable, watching it with my family I would always end up with my hands over my eyes.

Yeah I got the box set for Christmas about a decade ago when I was deep into Doctor Who and watching other British shows, and I just...... it never caught me. I feel bad my parents thought I'd like this thing they'd enjoyed in their youth but it was just so bad.

I tried very hard to like it but the racism and the classism is, like, so overwhelming that even my at-the-time unformed brain was uncomfortable.
