It scarred me too, in a different way. I still can’t get rid of anything old without wanting to cry. Actual trash, like empty chip bags and used tissues, are thankfully exempt. For anyone who wonders how hoarders are born, books like this are one answer.

I never knew I was saved from such bad outcomes by just thinking it had a stupid plot. If someone loves you, really LOVES YOU, they'll use you until you look like shit, and their love for you will make you so much deeper and more real than you were to start out with.

I sort of blinked incredulously at every bit of that as a kid and then went "no."
